Memphis teens lead state influx shots
Memphis teens have led Tennessee with the recent influx of COVID-19 vaccines due to the proliferation of delta variants throughout the state. New data shows.
The 15-19 year old group in the Memphis region showed the highest growth of any age group in eight regions from late July to the beginning of this week. Vaccinations among young residents over the age of 12 have also increased.
Based on recent state-wide COVID-19 data, this finding was announced Thursday by faculty researchers at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center and the Department of Health Policy at Vanderbilt Medical School.
Vaccinations are on the rise in certain regions and age groups, but infectious diseases and hospitalizations are also on the rise from July to August.

According to the data, researchers conclude that the burden of new COVID-19 cases across the state lies within the younger population of the state and is less likely to be vaccinated.
According to the report, “the highest proportion of documented COVID-19 cases (per 100,000 population) is concentrated in younger age groups who are less likely to be vaccinated.” ..
The findings show that it is the fastest growing among people in their early twenties who are vaccinated with the least infections.
Data show that in addition to teens in Memphis, people of almost all age groups under the age of 60 saw an increase in vaccination in western Tennessee, but not so much in western Tennessee in their 20s. It was not reflected.
Vaccination growth was highest in two regions of western Tennessee, but vaccination growth was seen in each of the eight regions of the state from late July.
Researchers have linked this pattern to news reports on the rise in delta cases and the new surge.
“We see this as promising evidence that people are responding to the threat of delta mutants by seeking vaccination,” the researchers wrote in the report.
In total, the metropolitan areas of Nashville, Knoxville, and Memphis have the highest immunization rates for almost all age groups, the researchers write. The lowest totals are in Cookeville’s Upper Cumberland region and surrounding counties.
