Unvaccinated ER nurse tested positive for COVID-19 at Lakeshore General Hospital
An unvaccinated nurse working in the emergency room of a hospital in Montreal COVID-19 (New Coronavirus Infection)..
Community health officials CIUSSS de l’Ouest del’Île-de-Montréal said nurses were in contact with patients at Lakeshore General Hospital who developed symptoms.
According to CIUSSS spokesman Hélène Bergeron-Gamache, the nurse was not vaccinated, but was tested three times a week and always wore a mask.
Approximately 30,000 health workers from public institutions not vaccinated with COVID-19, according to the Quebec Health Minister
According to CIUSSS, the nurse was removed from her unit as soon as the results of her test were known. Authorities say an investigation is underway “to determine if there is an epidemiological link” between the two COVID-19 cases.
“We strongly encourage staff and doctors to vaccinate and respect infection prevention and control standards with the same momentum that has been observed since the outbreak of the pandemic,” said local health officials.
In Quebec, a parliamentary commission is considering a government decision to require vaccination of all medical staff who have been in contact with patients for more than 15 minutes by October 15. It is also a task to analyze the idea of extending vaccination obligations to other workers such as teachers and childcare workers.
