COVID-19 cases continue to rise among children

The number of COVID-19 cases in children is four times that of 2020.
While hospitals are seeing an increase in children, pediatricians say that sick children often visit the office.
Thirteen COVID-19 patients were at the Gorisano Children’s Hospital on Wednesday. There may have been one or two before. Since the beginning of the pandemic, children have accounted for 14% of all COVID-19 cases in the United States, but in August that number surged to 22.5%.
“This virus doesn’t mean you want to visit your home. You don’t want to visit your children,” said Tammy Anderson, ICU pediatric nurse at Golisano’s.
Frontline nurses say masks will make a difference.
So do pediatricians and pediatricians.
“This virus is actually attacking our children. Yes, thank God. Children have a very high survival rate, actually higher than adults,” said a pediatrician. Said Dr. Iran Shapiro. “But that doesn’t change the fact that they can actually have long-term implications, which is a big problem for our community.”
According to Florida Health Department statistics, 13 children in Florida under the age of 17 died from the virus.
“It’s hard, it’s really hard,” said pediatrician Dr. David Butler. “Whenever a child dies, it has nothing to do with illness. It’s pretty tragic and it’s having so much from one illness … it’s pretty scary.”
The doctor agrees. Children eligible for the vaccine must obtain the vaccine and wear a mask. Unqualified children should also wear masks.
“Just come to the hospital and see, just see,” Butler said. “You never know until you walk in someone’s shoes. Looking at those parents, I look in his eyes and wonder if it’s your child.”
