Queensland has recorded two new COVID-19 cases in Sunnybank’s school cluster, but no blockage

Brisbane has taken a step further from the blockade, despite two newly acquired COVID-19 cases locally, as part of a school cluster.

A new incident in Queensland on Monday is a student at St. Thomas More College in Sunnybank.

Prime Minister Anastasia Parasek said the case was considered “low risk” because the test was positive during home quarantine, alleviating the fear that cluster expansion would encourage blockade.

She thanked about 1000 families associated with the school for remaining isolated.

“I’m really screaming at those families. I’m backing Queensland, so keep doing the right thing,” she said.

One of the newly positive students was infected for a very short period of time before entering the quarantine of the house, so additional exposure sites are listed.

However, Chief Health Officer Janet Young said, “I’m pretty sure I have the cluster.”

Five members of the same family across two households were previously detected in the cluster, including a 13-year-old high school girl from Sunnybank, who turned positive on Friday.

Three cross-border men in New South Wales are believed to be the source of the cluster, one of whom was positive after contact with the family’s father.
