Texas County remains a COVID-19 “hotspot” in Oklahoma, and various local, state, and federal agencies are working to strategically manage ongoing community outbreaks. Residents are strongly encouraged to stay home during outbreaks, socialize, cover their faces in public places, and delay their spread until more are inspected and quarantined.

Texas confirmed that 51 more COVID-19 tests were positive on Saturday May 16th. The new positive results are 44 Guymon residents, 5 Hooker residents, 1 Goodwell resident, and 1 Optima resident. No other details of confirmed cases have been published.

This week, we have completed testing at a local seaboard food factory. Also, today, Saturday, May 16th, the Texas County Health Department of the Texas County Activity Center conducted a drive-through test. County officials can report that 172 tests were performed during the county tests provided today. Authorities expect the surge in confirmed cases to continue for the next two weeks, due to increased testing and some delays in testing.

Today, Guymon ranks third in Oklahoma’s cities and towns, with 532 confirmed cases. Of these incidents, 225 Guymon residents were recovered. Hooker is currently ranked 13th in the state, with 68 confirmed and 50 recovered. Oklahoma City has the highest number of cases in the state, with 836 confirmed and 629 recovered. Tulsa was 539 and 438 were recovered.

Texas remains third in the state in the total number of confirmed cases. Of all 658 cases in Texas County, the Oklahoma Department of Health (OSDH) reported 306 recovery. The total number of confirmed cases in Oklahoma County was 1070 and 830 recovered. Tulsa County reports 642 recovery in 776 cases.

Investigations of positive results are standard, and any person in close contact with the person will be notified by the Oklahoma Department of Health to be notified of quarantine and inspection procedures.
