September 29 (Reuters)-A large study by the University of Oxford and the National Institutes of Health founding at least one long-term COVID-19 symptom in 37% of patients 3-6 months after infection with the virus. Is Wednesday.
According to the University of Oxford, after investigating the symptoms of more than 270,000 people who recovered from COVID-19, the most common symptoms included respiratory distress, malaise, pain, and anxiety.
Studies have shown that symptoms were more frequent among people who had previously been hospitalized for COVID-19 and were slightly more common among women.
This study does not provide detailed causes of long COVID symptoms, their severity, or how long they can last.
However, older people and men have more dyspnea and cognitive impairment, and younger people and women have more headaches, abdominal symptoms, anxiety and depression.
“We need to identify the underlying mechanisms of the various symptoms that can affect survivors,” said Paul Harrison, a professor at Oxford University who led the study.
“This information is essential to effectively prevent or treat the long-term health effects of COVID-19,” Harrison added.
