Canberra Covid-19 Blockage: ACT Records 31 New Cases and Financial Support for New Business
The Canberra company received the long-awaited financial backing as ACT recorded 31 new Covid-19 cases.
Canberra recorded 31 new locally acquired Covid-19 cases, bringing the total number of outbreaks in the capital to 835.
Of the 31 new cases, 6 were isolated throughout the period of infection and at least 17 were transmitted to the community.
Of the submissions, 17 are associated with existing cases, but 14 are under investigation.
ACT Prime Minister Andrew Barr confirmed that 10 Canberans are currently hospitalized in Covid-19, including 3 in the ventilator intensive care unit.
Mr. Barr announced that an updated financial support package for Canberra’s business will soon be rolled out.
“The Federal Treasury Secretary and I have reached an agreement and announced an extension of ACT’s Covid-19 Business Support Grant,” said the Prime Minister.
“Under an agreement with the federal government, there is an additional $ 10,000 additional business grant extension payment for all employment businesses and an additional $ 3750 for non-employment businesses.”
With the additional cash boost, total baseline support payments will be $ 40,000 for Canberra’s hiring business and $ 15,000 for non-hiring businesses.
Barr confirmed that businesses in the fitness and sports industry, such as gyms, personal trainers, and dance teachers, are also eligible for support payments.
Previously, this scheme was limited to companies in the tourism, accommodation, arts, events and hospitality sectors.
In the coming months, we expect additional additional payments for ACT’s medium and large businesses. According to Barr, payments are adjusted based on the sales of the business.
The blockade of Canberra is currently set to end on October 15, when the territory transitions to “medium level” public health restrictions.
