Minnesota Healthcare Leaders Addresses “Capacity Crisis” in Beds in Children’s Hospitals Across State
“The number of cases of COVID is increasing and has been steadily increasing for quite some time,” said Jean Malcolm, director of health at Minnesota.
On Thursday, health officials discussed the latest impacts on children and said that children under the age of 12 have 3,000 COVID cases per week.
“This represents a new and nasty high mark for the entire pandemic,” Malcolm said.

The amount of beds available to children is a major concern for many health authorities. Due to one of the causes of the coronavirus case, the Minnesota Health Department currently has a total of seven pediatric beds in the metro, two in southeastern Minnesota, one in northwestern Minnesota, and throughout Minnesota. One in the south, in the central part of the state.
“In the last few months, visits to all parts of the medical system have increased dramatically,” Gorelick said.
For frontline people, it can feel like a seemingly endless cycle.
“Currently, due to the extreme stress and burnout that we have been facing for over 18 months, we have actually fewer healthcare workers today than last year,” Malcolm said.
However, health care leaders do everything they can to encourage their staff and even provide incentives to work long hours.
