NHS Grand Pian people urged to participate in smear test
Those who are eligible for a cervical examination at the NHS Grand Pian are encouraged to undergo a smear examination when invited as part of a new campaign.
NHS Grand Pian is supporting the new Scottish Government’s campaign as two people die of cervical cancer every day in the UK, calling on them not to ignore the invitation, even if they think everything is going well.
Cervical cancer is largely preventable and screening is the best way to prevent the disease, but one in three women in Scotland can stop it for five minutes before it begins. I haven’t participated in the smear inspection yet.
The campaign also provides appointment tips and reassurance to help people overcome barriers to attendance such as embarrassment and worry.
Professor Chantini Palanjocy of Public Health Medicine, an honorary consultant for the NHS Grand Pian, said: This test checks for changes in HPV and cells and helps identify people at high risk for cervical cancer.
“We want to reassure those who may postpone going to Smia that the people who perform the tests are trained to feel as comfortable as possible with your promise. It is recommended that you consult your GP or nurse to provide appropriate support and make your appointments better. “
Public Health Minister Marie Todd said:
“It’s important not to ignore the invitation, even if you think everything is going well, because the test helps stop the cervical cancer before it begins.
“Testing for human papillomavirus (HPV), the leading cause of cervical cancer, helps identify and treat cellular changes early.
“This campaign was developed to encourage more qualified people to participate and ultimately save more lives. Some may feel uneasy about the smear test itself. However, information and advice are available to make booking easier. “
