COVID-19: 45 Hospital Staff Stopped in Guelph, Wellington County-Guelph
There are 45 hospital workers suspended in Guelph and Wellington County after choosing not to be vaccinated COVID-19 (New Coronavirus Infection)..
Guelph General Hospital said 31 staff members were absent from work on Thursday, and a spokesman for the Wellington Healthcare Alliance said 14 of the three hospital sites were on unpaid leave.
The partnership consists of Fergus’ Gloves Memorial Community Hospital, Mount Forest’s Louise Marshall Hospital, and Palmerston and District Hospital.
A spokesperson for Guelph Hospital initially said that 30 employees would be on unpaid leave, but later updated that number to 31.
The state has issued a directive that all hospitals need to implement vaccination policies by September 7.
Hospitals in the Waterloo region, Guelph and Wellington County have announced a joint announcement stating that staff, doctors, students, volunteers and contractors working at the facility will be vaccinated or will be on unpaid leave until October 12.
Staff must review and provide evidence of the risk of vaccination or dismissal by 9 November. Doctors lose their privileges if they are not vaccinated.
According to Kitchener’s Grand River Hospital, 136 staff and doctors have taken unpaid leave or have been deprived of their privileges.
The Cambridge Memorial Hospital said it would put 51 staff and doctors on unpaid leave.
St. Mary’s General Hospital in Kitchener said about 30 staff members will be on unpaid leave.
