An American couple died in Covid, leaving five children after false information about the vaccine made them oppose the life-saving jab.

Kevin and Misty Mickem, both in their 40s, died of the virus in just a few weeks, despite being urged by their families to vaccinate.

The couple were wary of vaccination for what they saw on the internet, and Mikem’s brother Mike explained that his petition was rejected by a “meme.”

“His reaction to me was to show me the various memes and stuff I found on Facebook,” he told PEOPLE.

“I couldn’t change his mind because he believed it was all the truth of the Gospel.”

Kevin and Misty have been married for 17 years and lived in Virginia. The pair had four children: Riley, 17 years old. Lear, 14 years old, twins Taylor and Aiden, 11 years old.

Kevin had a 22-year-old daughter, Angel, from a previous relationship. Angel now has a two-year-old son, Lincoln.

After being first infected with the virus, the husband gave the virus to his wife, who became ill and was sent to the hospital.

The diabetic Misty was placed on a ventilator before he died on September 23, and Kevin died on October 8 at the age of 48. Neither was vaccinated.

Mike Mitchem told the freelance star that her sister-in-law had only days from her first Covid symptoms to death.

Kevin’s father, Don, wept as he spoke of his last conversation with his son.

“He said,’Dad, I’m afraid to die,'” he told NBC.

“I told him to call his mom.”

In the final conversation between Kevin and his mother, Terry, he said to her, “I wish I had been shot.”

“Of course, I told him,’That’s the past. You can’t do anything about it,'” she said.

“Some of our pain is anger,” said Mikem’s father.

“People get angry because they haven’t been vaccinated yet. Thinking about it, you need to get a specific vaccine before you go to school. What’s the big problem with this?”

The family spoke in various US media and urged people to be vaccinated.

“The virus will take you at any age, but you are not required to take your mother and father,” he said.
