Saskatchewan approves the use of monoclonal antibodies to treat high-risk COVID-19 patients
Saskatchewan Health Authorities say Monoclonal antibody Will be available from October 25th to treat some COVID-19 (New Coronavirus Infection) Patient, prevent Unvaccinated Or hospitalization for people with severe immunosuppression.
After November 1, those who test positive for COVID-19 can self-assess their eligibility for monoclonal antibodies. online..
Eligible candidates will need to book further assessments with the clinician, but will not be self-referencing.
In the release, SHA explained that monoclonal antibodies will be used as a one-time intravenous treatment for early infections of mild to moderate COVID-19.
Treatment uses laboratory-made antibodies and aims to give the first immune response to a person who lacks previous antibodies or has a weakened immune system.
The criteria for clinicians to prescribe monoclonal antibodies are as follows:
- Unvaccinated COVID-19 patients and certain immunodeficient or immunosuppressed COVID-19 patients regardless of vaccination status.
- Patients within 5 days of the onset of symptoms.
- Patients 55 years or older, or 18 years or older, with certain high-risk comorbidities.
