In a press release on Thursday, the State Department of Health recommended that people be vaccinated against the flu.
“Influenza vaccines are the best way to protect yourself from the flu,” said Dr. Maggie Cook Simanek, Deputy State Health Officer. “Even if you get vaccinated early, one vaccination is effective during all seasons of the flu.”
The press release said it would take about two weeks to develop protection against influenza after vaccination.
Influenza vaccinations are available in a variety of locations throughout the state, including pharmacies and county health departments. The influenza vaccine can be given with the COVID-19 vaccine. More than half of the state’s population is vaccinated against COVID-19.
According to a state health bureau press release, people can spread the flu up to seven days before they feel sick. Influenza spreads by coughing and sneezing. Symptoms include fever, chills, headache, malaise, sore throat, cough, body aches, and vomiting.
