Vaccine booster clinics for residents are delayed due to widespread outbreaks in nursing homes in Nova Scotia-Halifax
Aggressive COVID-19 (New Coronavirus Infection) Testing is underway at a nursing home in Pugwash, Nova Scotia, and as a result, two more residents were tested positive.
This brings the total number of resident cases to 23 since the outbreak at East Cumberland Lodge was first announced earlier this week.
Christal MacKinnon’s 91-year-old father was virus-positive on the first test.
“He was supposed to have a booster shot here just before he was recently tested positive,” said McKinnon, a Nova Scotia-born woman in Calgary.
The outbreak delayed the COVID-19 booster shot at the facility, but efforts are underway to detect and contain further spread of the virus.
“I’m convinced my dad is very confused as to why my mother can’t visit him right now,” McKinnon said of ongoing safety measures at a care facility to prevent visitors.
According to Nova Scotia’s public health, the outbreak began with a secondary transmission associated with a large faith-based rally in Cumberland County, NS.
The vaccination status of the staff members who participated in the rally is unknown.
“We have some facilities with more than 90-98 percent staff. There are certainly some nursing homes in the state that are still trying to increase that number,” said Michellelow, director of the association. I did.

Rowe says the booster clinic is underway for caregivers and will continue until next week. The clinic also provides unvaccinated residents with the opportunity to end or begin the first series of doses.

If they do not comply with Nova Scotia’s vaccination obligations for health care workers, Rowe says they will be put on unpaid leave according to government orders.
East Cumberland Lodge has so far reported only mild symptoms to residents. While McKinnon is eagerly waiting for his father to meet again, McKinnon is comfortable.
