Outbreaks of “serious” covids associated with Scottish music events with confirmed cases of Omicron
Health officials have identified a “significant” outbreak of Covid-19 in Highlands, including a small number of Omicron mutations.
The incident was related to a music event in the Royal British Legion of Nairn on Saturday, November 27, according to a statement from NHS Highland released on Sunday night.
The Health Commission also revealed tonight that Ward 5A at Raigmore Hospital in Inverness has been banned from new hospitalizations and visits following the detection of a small number of Covid cases.
Another 18 cases of the Omicron variant were detected in Scotland after the Scottish government confirmed earlier on Sunday. This is the highest total number per day so far.
The NHS Highland statement states: “The NHS Highland Health Service has identified a significant outbreak of COVID-19 related to a music event held in the Royal British Legion of Nairn on Saturday, November 27, 2021.
“A minority of these cases are currently identified as cases of newly identified Omicron variants.”
The Health Commission has attended this event and urged those who have not yet been contacted by the health protection of the contact tracing team to immediately self-quarantine and call 01436704886.
The statement goes on to say: “Enhanced contact tracing has been performed with guidance on managing new variants.
“The Omicron variant is a new Covid variant that we are still learning. Until we know more about it, we need to be cautious and do everything we can to prevent it from spreading. Current quarantine advice does not apply and close contacts are required to be quarantined for 10 days, regardless of vaccination status or PCR test results.
“Their households are also urged to take additional action to reduce infections within our community.
“We work very closely with the Royal British Legion staff who have assisted in the outbreak investigation.”
Another statement released by the Health Commission tonight said: Continue care.
“All appropriate infection prevention and control measures have been taken. Close contact has been identified and appropriate advice and support has been provided.”
