You can count on one vaccine that is ready for the fall- 2020-2021 Flu season influenza vaccine. Getting vaccinated this year is more important than ever, Keren and Schaffner said. If more people are protected from the flu, they are protected from at least one severe respiratory virus that can save their trip to the hospital.

“The vaccine isn’t perfect, but it can still prevent many infections and reduce the severity of other infections,” Schaffner said.

We know what we are facing. Both doctors said companies are unlikely to close down again in the big way like spring, and more community sites such as schools and places of worship will reopen. That, coupled with the flu season, may help coronaviruses circulate in the community.

Schaffner and Keren said this would make standard mitigation measures (more at home, wearing a mask in public, and maintaining a distance of at least 6 feet) even more important. ..
