Michigan reports 12,649 new cases of COVID-19, 254 deaths
(WXYZ) — Michigan has discovered an average of more than 6,000 new cases of COVID-19 in the last two days.
According to state data on Friday, the state reported 12,649 new cases of COVID-19 and 254 new reported deaths. Of these deaths, 159 were identified during a review of important records.
This brings the total number of cases to 1,420,838 and the total number of deaths to 25,824 since the pandemic occurred in March 2020.
The state has also identified some news cases of Omicron variants in Metro Detroit. According to the state, Omicron cases are currently confirmed in Oakland and Wayne counties, with a total of six cases confirmed so far in the state.
According to MDHHS, the institute runs 400 sequences per week, and additional samples are analyzed by academic partners and out-of-state CDC contract laboratories.
MDHHS also encourages people to avoid emergency rooms unless they are in a life-threatening condition.
According to the MDHHS press release, the state health care system is overwhelmed by COVID-19 patients.
From January 15th to December 3rd, 85.1% of COVID-19 cases, 88.1% of hospitalizations and 85.5% of deaths were completely unvaccinated.
