Covid-19: Napier resident test positive

Public health officials are investigating how residents of Napier were infected with Covid-19.

They returned a positive test result today, but it is not yet known if it is a highly contagious Omicron variant.

Hawke’s Bay medical officer Nick Jones said the patient was self-isolated at home and all known close contacts were identified and tested.

“We are continuing to investigate how positive cases were infected with Covid-19 and leads and angles were followed up.”

90% of the eligible population in the region have been vaccinated twice with the Covid-19 vaccine.

Dr. Jones said it is important for people with cold or flu symptoms to be tested for Covid-19, no matter how mild or vaccinated.

“Detecting a virus to avoid community spread is in the interests and correctness of everyone, even with very mild symptoms.

“The drive-in test center and reserved reservations are available with sufficient capacity during the holidays.”
