Increasing number of COVID patients in CT hospitals, healthcare professionals exposed to virus – NBC Connecticut
The COVID-19 infection rate in Connecticut is high, with 1,676 COVID patients hospitalized and an increasing number of health care workers complaining of illness as of Wednesday.
According to Hartford HealthCare, the entire system has more than 400 COVID patients and staff are also infected with the virus.
More than 600 employees at Hartford HealthCare are ill.
“This staff jumped in to pick up additional shifts to support. Even on the floor, the role of the staff alone is what they are doing to allow everyone to support each other. I’m stretching it, “Silver said.
Yale New Haven Health has 535 of its approximately 30,000 workers, and hospital leaders say they are all at hand.

Another concern is the wave of patients. The state has reached a height not seen since April 2020.
But this time it’s very different. Medical professionals say that not many people are receiving critical care, and medical staff have learned a lot about caring for COVID patients over the last two years.
“We are good at doing this. The treatments and tests are excellent,” said Dr. Henry Wu, Principal Epidemiologist at Hartford Healthcare.
Hartford HealthCare can track open beds and move around the state as needed. There is also a plan in case surge capacity is needed.
“This is a time of caution, not a time of confusion, not a time of panic,” Flaks said.
Medical professionals expect hospitalizations to continue to increase for at least the next week or two.
