Brenton Davis sees the COVID-19 vaccine and tests it as a way to end the surge
The recent surge in new COVID-19 cases has not upset Erie County Executive Brenton Davis to revive the county school Maskman Date.
The best way to get out of this pandemic is to increase COVID-19 testing and convince more people to be vaccinated, Davis said while attending the COVID-19 testing clinic at the Bayfront Convention Center on Monday. I did.
“If you know you’re positive, testing is important because you can isolate yourself and quarantine your family,” Davis said. “That way, the virus is less likely to spread.”
Davis wants to open a small clinic throughout the county that can provide COVID-19 testing and vaccination and all on-site referrals for COVID-19 treatment in one place.
Ideally, these clinics are open five days a week, Davis said.
“We can’t expect people in Collie and Union City to drive here to the bayfront (convention center),” Davis said. “I want to open five or six clinics that are convenient for people in the county,” he said.

Davis said he had no regrets about ending the county-wide Maskman date, but said some people remained confused by it.
According to Davis, in each school district, faculty, staff, and students are required to wear face masks in all school district buildings.
“What we did was empower each school district to make their own choices about masking,” Davis said. “Almost all of them still need masks, as we remain at a high level of community spread.”
Influenza cases decrease in Erie County
Last week, the number of cases of COVID-19 and hospitalization surged in Erie County, but the number of cases of influenza decreased. 16 cases were reported in the counties from January 2 to 8, compared to 39 cases from December 26 to January. 1.1.
This is good news. In particular, it can be infected with both influenza and COVID-19 at the same time. St. Vincent reported several children to the emergency department for both influenza and COVID-19, but did not need to be hospitalized.
“In the case of influenza and COVID, the combination of symptoms can have double harm to the immune system,” said Charlotte Bellinger RN, Head of Community Health Services at the County Health Department.
Behringer said it was “premature” to think that the 2021-22 flu season was nearing its end. The flu season usually occurs between December and March.
Increasing vaccinations and breakthrough cases
According to the County Health Department, the COVID-19 vaccination rate in Erie County remains high, with 55.5% of all residents of the county fully vaccinated and 63,594 additional (third and boosted) vaccinations. ..
The number of groundbreaking COVID-19 cases in the county has also increased as the Omicron subspecies spread. A total of 9,045 breakthrough cases have been reported, accounting for 6% of all fully vaccinated county inhabitants.
The County Health Department also updated the total number of cases and deaths for COVID-19 in December. In December, a total of 65 people died from complications of COVID-19. This is the fourth highest monthly total since the pandemic began, one less than the 66 who died in November.
Since the onset of the pandemic, the county’s COVID-19 mortality rate has dropped to 1.5% of all possible confirmed cases.
A total of 6,190 new cases were reported in December, the second most common case after 6,210 reported in December 2020.
On Thursday, the County Health Department reported 563 new COVID-19 cases and 8 deaths.
