Nine Sons-Nine New Covid-19 Cases at Tasman “Timely Reminders to Take Tests”

Nelson and Tasman have nine new Covid-19 cases from the same household.

“Anyone with symptoms, no matter how mild, will be reminded in a timely manner to be tested.”

Public health officials are investigating a recent trip to Auckland as a possible source of infection.

Tests were done to determine the variant, but no results were returned yet.

Case interviews are in progress and places of interest will be added to Ministry of Health web page..

Residents and visitors who have traveled to the Nelson or Tasman districts in the last 14 days will be asked to monitor the places of interest and follow the instructions if they have visited.

The Ministry of Health announced today that the increased infectivity of the Omicron mutant has extended the quarantine period for Covid-19-infected individuals from 10 days to 14 days.

Close contact with positive cases that previously had to be quarantined for 7 days now has to be quarantined for 10 days.

In the last outbreak in the Nelson area, 23 people were infected with the virus in November and December, and the last positive case was confirmed on December 13.

The outbreak was divided into two clusters, 19 in one group and 4 in the other. All cases had recovered by January.

Test centers will be opened for walk-ins at Stoke’s Saxton Field and Motu Eka Recreation Centers on weekends, and symptomatic individuals will be asked to take the test, even if they have been vaccinated.

People can also take the test by making an appointment with their GP.
