Six more COVID-19s died in London, Ontario due to reduced ICU access on Wednesday
Wednesday Middlesex-London Health Unit (MLHU) reported six additional deaths for people with COVID-19.
Three of the six were vaccinated twice, and one of them was also boosted. The other three were not vaccinated.
The recent deaths are:
- Men in their 80s related to long-term care were vaccinated three times.
- Men in their 80s associated with long-term care were vaccinated twice.
- 80’s man, twice vaccinated.
- 80’s female, unvaccinated.
- 70’s man, unvaccinated.
- Male in his 50s, unvaccinated.
Middlesex-35 COVID-19-related deaths in January in London. This is the second deadliest month on record, following January 2021, when there were 73.
The death toll has been up to 294 since the pandemic began.
MLHU reported 180 new cases of COVID-19 among people in high-risk work and environment. The 7-day moving average for the daily case has dropped to 199.
Hospitalization will increase and the number of ICU patients will decrease
The London Health Sciences Center (LHSC) on Wednesday reported 163 inpatients, an increase of 14 from the previous day.
Overall, the hospital network states:
- 102 patients are being treated for COVID-19.
- Sixty-one patients were tested positive for the virus when they were hospitalized for other treatments.
Twenty patients have decreased by one from the previous day and are in need of critical care. The number of staff who tested positive for the virus has dropped to 192.

COVID-19 inside and outside the region
Southwestern Public Health reported 29 patients with COVID-19 at a hospital in Elgin-Oxford, 10 of whom were receiving critical care.
The health unit posted 54 new COVID-19 infections on Wednesday with no additional deaths. Elgin-Oxford has 711 known active cases.
Also on Wednesday, Ontario reported 89 additional COVID-19-related deaths in the last three weeks. There are 608 patients in intensive care units throughout the state, down 18 from Tuesday.
The Ministry of Health said that about 83% of critical care centers were hospitalized for COVID-19-related illnesses and 17% tested positive for the virus after being infected for another reason.
