The Southwestern Virginia hospital system is seeking community support as COVID hospitalizations continue to increase.

Roanoke, Virginia (WDBJ)-“I’m mentally and physically tired.”
Carilion Clinic, Centra Health, LewisGale Regional Health System, Salem VA Health Care System and Sovah Health gathered on Wednesday to send a joint message to residents.
“We need help.”
This is a message that residents have heard before, but the hospital has announced more public services to seek help in the fight against the pandemic.
The number of COVID hospitalizations has been increasing weekly since late November. The number of Wednesdays across the region includes 538 COVID-19 hospitalizations and 116 in the ICU.
This continues to strain the frontline healthcare system.
“We medical professionals are very passionate about what we are doing. We were attracted to medicine because we wanted to care for our patients and help our communities. , We are humans, “said Dr. Patrice Weiss, Chief Medical Officer at the Carrion Clinic.
Dr. Kernel Cooper, Chief Medical Officer of the Lewis Gale Community Health System, said:
Health experts said the majority of deaths continue to occur in unvaccinated individuals. With increasing hospitalizations, it continues to affect the entire hospital system.
“Every time a COVID patient is hospitalized, they are a scarce resource. Labor and medical resources that are not available to other COVID patients and not to other non-COVID patients,” Dr. Weiss said.
Ultimately, health professionals want to educate still skeptics how important vaccination, masking, and healthy habits are to stop the spread of the virus. ..
“We must continue to convey the message we know to be scientific and true, that is, vaccines and boosters prevent hospitalization,” Dr. Weiss said.
