British doctor tests ibuprofen in COVID-19 patients with dyspnea
LONDON (Reuters)-A British doctor is testing a formulation of anti-inflammatory ibuprofen to see if it reduces respiratory failure in patients with severe COVID-19 symptoms.
This trial includes certain formulations of ibuprofen. It has been shown to be more effective than standard ibuprofen in treating the severe acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARCS), a complication of COVID-19, the researchers say.
The formulation is already licensed for use in the UK for other conditions.
Matthew Hotpot, head of the NIHR Maudsley Biomedical Research Centre, said:
Known as’LIBERATE’, this trial is a randomized trial and is expected to recruit up to 230 patients over the next few months.

French health ministers said in March that anti-inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen should not be used if there are symptoms of COVID-19, a disease caused by the new coronavirus.
However, US, UK, European Union drug regulators, and Nurofen Reckitt Benckiser (RB.LAll say there is no evidence that ibuprofen exacerbates COVID-19.
