Ohio reports 4,004 more COVID-19 cases: daily coronavirus update for Friday, Feb. 4
CLEVELAND, Ohio — The state of Ohio on Friday reported 4,004 new cases of COVID-19, the lowest total since Nov. 21 and continuing the streak of case counts well below the 19,000 cases a day seen in late December and early January.
Friday is the eighth straight day below 10,000. The total COVID-19 case count since early 2020 has now reached 2,605,245.
Ohio’s death toll since the beginning of the pandemic rose by 680 on Friday 34,217. COVID-19 deaths are reported twice a week, on Tuesdays and Fridays, though often the deaths being reported are weeks old.
A total of 7,177,678 Ohioans have received at least one vaccination, representing about 65.2% of Ohioans age 5 and up.
Since the beginning of 2021, there have been 18,992 deaths among people reported as unvaccinated, and 924 among people reported to be fully vaccinated. And there have been 60,616 hospitalized Ohioans who were not fully vaccinated, and 3,812 fully vaccinated people hospitalized. Updates are normally provided each Thursday but were delayed in January. Thursday’s numbers were updated through Feb. 2.
The state does not report for COVID-19 cases whether people were vaccinated.
The total cases being reported recently are understated, as some people do not report at-home tests and others may not be testing at all.
