WHO explains how to tackle the risks of “Long Covid”
Dr. Maria Vankelkov, an epidemiologist at the World Health Organization (WHO), said on Sunday that she could tackle the risks of “long covids”, severe illness and death with tools.
“We can invest in the public health systems we need now and for the future,” said a WHO epidemiologist.
Kerkhove, one of WHO’s top experts on Covid-19, cited five factors that continue to promote Covid-19 infection worldwide.
-Continuous evolution of SARS-CoV-2 results in more contagious mutants and mutants with antigenic escape
-Unequal access to life-saving tools such as PPE, diagnosis, treatment and vaccines (#VaccinEquity)
-With increasing social mobility and social mixing
-Inappropriate and inconsistent use of proven public health and social measures (masks, distance, ventilation, hand hygiene …)
-Incorrect information, disinformation, inconsistent messages, politicization, incorrect stories
Earlier, WHO officials said 90 million Covid-19 cases have been reported since the Omicron variant was first identified 10 weeks ago. This is above the entire 2020, the first year of the pandemic.
WHO Secretary-General Tedros Adhanomgebreyes has been shown to result in less severe illnesses than previous variants, as many countries have eased restrictions in the face of national fatigue. Even warning that Omicron should not be underestimated, he said, “We have cited a very worrisome increase in deaths. In most parts of the world.”
“We are concerned that the story that it is no longer possible and no longer necessary to prevent infection because of the vaccine, and because of the high infectivity and low severity of Omicron, is well established in some countries. “I’m doing it,” he told a regular WHO briefing on the pandemic.
“We can’t be far from the truth. It’s too early to surrender or declare victory. The virus is dangerous and keeps evolving in front of us,” Tedros added.
WHO said deaths are on the rise in four of six regions around the world.
Many European countries, such as the United Kingdom, France, Ireland and the Netherlands, are beginning to ease the blockade. Finland will end the COVID-19 limit this month.
