Google Doodle Celebrate Varicella Vaccine Pioneer Dr. Michiaki Takahashi

Almost 60 years ago, a 3-year-old boy with chickenpox inspired his father to create a vaccine to treat a highly contagious disease. The man is Dr. Michiaki Takahashi, and his vaccine is currently used to protect millions of children around the world from illness.
To highlight Takahashi’s contribution to health and science, Google will dedicate its Doodle to Japanese virologists on Thursday on their 94th birthday. Doodle depicts Takahashi, who is conducting research to isolate a virus that causes an itchy blistering rash to spread throughout the body.
Takahashi, who has been involved in measles and poliovirus research in Japan for many years, worked as a researcher at Baylor College of Medicine in the mid-1960s when his young son, Teruyuki, suffered from chickenpox. After that, Takahashi served as a director of the Osaka University Microbial Disease Research Foundation. He died in 2013 at the age of 85.
