Ivermectin, UVA Health for testing other medicines to treat COVID
Fluvoxamine is often prescribed for the treatment of depression, and ivermectin is used for the treatment of parasitic infections.
UVA Health has signed a national survey on whether two drugs, ivermectin and fluvoxamine, can be used to treat COVID-19.
A total of about 15,000 Americans are expected to attend the trial.
“There are some excellent new COVID-19 drugs for outpatients, but the supply is limited and finding potential new treatments is still important,” said Patrick EH, who leads the UVA Health clinical trial. Dr. Jackson said.
“The drugs we are studying are cheap and widely available, so if they prove to be effective in treating COVID, they could have a significant impact worldwide.”
Fluvoxamine is often prescribed for the treatment of depression, and ivermectin is used for the treatment of parasitic infections. To be eligible for the study, participants must be at least 30 years old and have a positive COVID test within the last 10 days. Also, at least two COVID symptoms should be seen within 7 days.
