“Hacker tries to steal British vaccine research”

Head of UK spy agency GCHQ said Thursday that hostile country hackers were trying to steal secret coronavirus vaccine research.
GCHQ director Jeremy Fleming said the hackers were targeting the British medical infrastructure and laboratories.
“We know that whether it’s a state or a criminal, we pursue something sensitive to us,” Fleming said. “Thus, protecting the health sector, and in particular the competition for vaccines, is a top priority for us.”
Representatives of GCHQ, the British intelligence agency, rarely interviews. This was presented to the Cheltenham Science Festival.
The hacker “was looking for a fairly basic vulnerability.” This includes “a lure that tricks people into clicking the wrong one…where people don’t back it up properly, or where they have basic passwords etc.”
Fleming did not mention China in the name, but the Guardian reported that sources said China was often involved.
“For the UK, we see China as an enemy of espionage. We see them as economic partners. We work with them in some areas, compete with them in others, and In other areas, we call for action when we think it doesn’t match our expectations or our values,” he said.
Sir Richard Diarab, head of the UK foreign intelligence agency MI6, said yesterday that he believed the coronavirus was artificial and accidentally escaped from a Chinese lab.
Diarab operated an agency in preparation for the Iraq War between 1999 and 2004.
He had seen the Daily Telegraph in a “very important” study claiming that scientists identified an “insertion section located on the surface of the Sars-CoV-2 spike” that binds to human cells, “It’s significantly different than any of the Sars we investigated,” he said. “
“I don’t think this started as an accident,” he said.
“It raises the question, if China ever acknowledges responsibility, does it pay compensation? How the world deals with its relationship with China, and how the international community is heading towards China’s leadership. Would be reconsidered about how to behave.”
The study in question, widely dismissed by both scientists and security officials, was conducted by Professor Angus Dalgleish, a former candidate for UKIP’s right-wing political party, UKIP, who worked at St. George’s Hospital at the University of London.
British health minister Matt Hancock previously said the government had seen “no evidence” suggesting that the virus had started in the laboratory.
