Bird flu confirmed in flock in Stoddard County, Missouri
Missouri authorities will quarantine the affected facilities and kill and dispose of birds on the premises to prevent the spread of the disease.
Bloomfield, Illinois — Federal inspectors have confirmed the presence of bird flu in a herd of commercial broilers in Stoddard County, southeastern Missouri.
The USDA confirmed the development in a news release on Friday. Authorities said samples from the herd were tested at the University of Missouri Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Institute and confirmed at the USDA Veterinary Institute in Ames, Iowa.
Missouri officials will quarantine the affected facilities and kill and dispose of birds on the premises to prevent the spread of the disease, USDA said.
The announcement comes about a month after the discovery of a highly contagious virus in a herd of commercial turkeys in Indiana, and just days after it was detected in a herd of chickens and ducks in the backyard of western Iowa. I will be.
