Portland, Oregon (KTVZ)-COVID-19 claimed two more lives in Oregon and raised the death toll to 161, the Oregon Health Department reported Friday. The surge in nearly 240 new cases counted over the last three days is indicative of more extensive testing and contact tracking, it said.

The OHA said that there were 97 newly confirmed estimated cases of COVID-19 as of 12:01 on Friday, reaching 4,570 cases across the state, with 138,676 negative test results.

The Oregon Health Authority today reported 97 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 as of 12:01, bringing the total number of cases to 4,570.

In Deschutes County, there was one new COVID-19 case, a total of 134, with a total of 6,222 negative results.

Jefferson County, including the Warmer Springs Indian Reservation, has nine new cases, totaling 55. Later in Thursday, the Warm Springs tribe reported a total of 46 positive cases. ..

“We’re really involved in this with Warm Springs,” said Tamike Paa, a spokeswoman for Jefferson County.

In fact, she says, “Warm Springs is testing to see all Jefferson County tests. All providers are actively working to provide more community event testing. “

Kepaa said 25 of the total 55 cases in the county and pending had subsequently recovered.

In Croke County, there were no new cases on Friday, with a total of 6 cases, one less than the state counts on Thursday. The OHA said it reduced the total for Deschute and Crook counties by one each after it was found that there was not one case reported.

The 160th COVID-19 death in Oregon was a 63-year-old man in Multnomah County who tested positive on 29 April and died at the Portland VA Medical Center on 3 June. He had an underlying illness.

The 161th COVID-19 death in Oregon was a 96-year-old woman in Marion County who tested positive on May 31 and died at Salem Hospital on June 3. She had an underlying illness.

  • One case previously reported in Crook County was determined not to be a case. The county cases were adjusted accordingly.
  • One case previously reported in Deschutes County was determined not to be a case. The county cases were adjusted accordingly.

Large number of daily cases

On Friday, the number of COVID-19 cases was the third highest per day since the onset of a pandemic in Oregon, with 97 estimated and confirmed cases reported to OHA. This has reported a total of 238 cases over the last 3 days.

Higher numbers are associated with several factors, including wider test availability, increased contact tracking, and active monitoring of intimate contact in the case. The number of households associated with confirmed cases is increasing.

Workplace outbreaks are another source of higher numbers. Many of these are seasonal facilities and many follow public health recommendations by providing inspections to employees.

Despite the large number of cases, the overall infection rate remains the lowest in the United States, the OHA reports.

“But the increase in the number of cases means that Oregons need to maintain physical distance, wear face covers in places where physical distance cannot be maintained, avoid large gatherings, and protect hand hygiene. It reminds me,” officials said.

OHA has weekend to report changes to daily COVID-19 updates

Starting this weekend on Saturday June 6th, OHA will no longer include a link to the Oregon COVID-19 Daily Update in their daily news releases. Updates will be available Monday through Friday.

Relevant data collected over the weekend is included in every Monday update. The weekend daily news releases will also no longer include the newly confirmed or estimated county case count of COVID-19 cases.
