Number of influenza cases lower than pre-pandemic levels

According to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, influenza cases are increasing across the United States, but have not reached pre-pandemic levels.
One of the positive side effects of the COVID pandemic was a reduction in influenza cases. This is probably because people were isolated and socially distant. During the 2019-2020 season, more than 22,000 people died of the flu in the United States. The death toll for the 2020-2021 season has dropped to about 700.
During the previous 2021-22 flu season, the CDC estimates that 1,700 flu deaths, 2.9 million flu cases and 28,000 hospitalizations.

However, the CDC said hospitalizations have increased every six weeks. Last week, three children were reported dead from the flu. In the previous 2021-22 flu season, 13 children died.
According to the CDC, the proportion of outpatient visits for respiratory illness increased last week, but remains below the epidemic baseline, noting that influenza is not the only epidemic of respiratory illness.
The number of cases of influenza varies from place to place, but Oklahoma reports high influenza activity as measured by a doctor, while Arkansas and Idaho report moderate activity.
