More Covid-19 vaccination centers in Spore will be closed in the coming weeks.Experts say the move is timely
The Singapore-10 vaccination center has been closed and will be closed further in the coming weeks.
According to a check by The Straits Times, there are currently 30 vaccination centers in operation, down from 40 in June last year.
Last Wednesday (March 16th), the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Education and the Infant Development Agency urged the general public to visit the center, which remains open.
Authorities said: “Call on individuals, parents and parents to take full advantage of the vaccination center’s capabilities and geographic extent before it is further closed in the coming weeks.”
These closures occur as republican inoculation rates continue to increase.
Ninety-five percent of the eligible population completed a complete vaccination program and 71% of the total population received additional vaccinations.
Experts told ST that the closure of the vaccination center indicates that Singapore may be nearing the end of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Professor Dale Fisher, a senior infectious disease consultant at a national university hospital, said:
“That mission has been achieved to some extent and future vaccination needs may be met by Singapore’s normal permanent medical services infrastructure.”
Associate Professor Alex Cook, Associate Professor of Research at the Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health, agreed that a small number of centers, or perhaps primary care providers, could serve this purpose in this later stages of vaccine introduction.
Professor Cook said: “I’m sure it will be the fourth in the future, but it’s unclear if we all need to get them, or if we only need to get the ones at high risk. The primary care department could be the main facilitator of this. “
Health providers said most of the future people are those taking booster doses or Covid-19 patients who have recovered due to jabs.
Healthway Medical, which operates four vaccination centers, said the number of patients in need of vaccination should decrease over time as the majority of the population is vaccinated.
A Raffles Medical spokesman said: “11 vaccination centers run by Raffles Medical have seen an overall reduction in the number of people coming to Covid-19 vaccination compared to earlier this year.”
