Approximately 1,000 people infected with coronavirus in California prison

Knowing that some of the prisoners tested positive for COVID-19, prison staff immediately placed the building where they lived under quarantine and began inspecting the rest of the prison population.
According to Robert McBride, authorities have begun moving prisoners from quarantined buildings to prison-free areas of the prison. Last month, McBride said six men had been moved from the isolated building to his own. The man was negative for COVID-19 at the time, but when he was tested again last week, McBride said he found that 5 out of 6 were infected.

According to McBride, the detainees intend to make a formal complaint against the prison administration and have decided to move people from the quarantine department to a COVID-free department.
No prisoners have been newly admitted to Chakkawara since the outbreak began. The prison has designated another housing for prisoners who tested negative for COVID-19, and authorities have freed space to accommodate social distance measures.
