Nearly 300 London hospital workers infected with COVID-19

COVID-19 cases of London hospital workers have risen to levels not seen since mid-January.

The London Health Sciences Center (LHSC) reported on Friday that another 21 staff members were virus-positive, increasing the total number of employees to 294. This is an increase from 226 at this point last week. Since January 21, when 297 workers were confirmed to be infected with COVID-19, staff infections have been modest.

According to figures released by LHSC, COVID-19 hospitalizations increased by 4 to 41. Hospitalization has increased for two weeks. This is the first time that more than 40 COVID-positive patients have been treated for LHSC since March 14. The hospital network noted that 17 out of 41 infected inpatients were hospitalized for treatment of the virus. The other 24 came to the hospital for other reasons and tested positive for the virus.

The hospital network has 6 patients with COVID listed in the intensive care unit, starting from 5 or less on Thursday. The number of inpatients in the children’s hospital is the same as the day before, and is less than five.

From 135 on Thursday, another 58 new cases have been identified by the Middlesex London Health Unit in the last 24 hours. However, the Middlesex London Health Unit points out that due to changes in test eligibility, the number of cases per day is likely to underestimate the actual number of virus-infected individuals in the region. ..

Since the beginning of the pandemic, the total number of confirmed infections in the area is currently 34,839.

The health unit said there were no additional virus-related deaths on Friday. The death toll has not increased in London and Middlesex County for the second consecutive day. The local death toll is currently 365.

The number of resolved cases has increased to 33,479. There are 995 known active cases in the region, a decrease of 8 in the last 24 hours.

In Elgin and Oxford County, 128 new COVID-19 cases were reported on Friday. Southwestern Public Health, the area’s health sector, said the total number of cases in the area reached 12,370, with 11,791 resolved. The number of deaths due to COVID-19 was 156 locally and remained unchanged. Currently, there are 423 known active cases in the two counties.

COVID-19 hospitalizations across the state increased further on Friday.

Public health officials have confirmed that there are currently 1,135 COVID-19-positive individuals in Ontario hospitals. It has increased by 9 from the previous day. At this point last week, 804 hospitalizations were reported across the state.

Of the 1,135 hospitalized on Friday, about 45.3% were hospitalized for the virus and 54.7% were hospitalized for other reasons and were positive for the virus.

In the intensive care unit, there are 166 COVID-19 patients, an increase of 7 from Thursday.

Ontario recorded 4,295 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday. Public health officials have warned that due to the limited eligibility of PCR tests, daily numbers underestimate the spread of the virus in the state.

The total number of cases in Ontario since the outbreak of the pandemic is now 1,188,640.

An additional 10 deaths have been reported in the last 24 hours, with up to 12,537 deaths. According to the state, six of the deaths occurred within the past month and four occurred more than a month ago.

The number of cases resolved increased by 2,644 to 1,147,533.

Over the last 24 hours, 17,565 COVID-19 tests have been processed. The positive rate in Ontario is now 19%, up from 16.4% a week ago and 12.6% two weeks ago.

To date, the state has received 32,146,824 COVID-19 vaccines, and 91% of people over the age of 12 have received two doses. Over 7.2 million Ontario citizens received booster shots.
