Covid 19 testing and vaccination is the best defense against the virus, as cases in the Northland region are declining.
Cases of Covid 19 in the Northland region continued to decline over the weekend, but the Ministry of Health said less people were expected to be tested.
The Ministry of Health reported 635 Covid cases in Northland on Saturday and 344 Covid cases on Sunday. No deaths were reported in the area over the weekend, as there were 23 people infected with the virus at a hospital in Northland on Sunday afternoon.
There were 8,531 community cases reported nationally on Saturday, with 635 hospitalizations and 11 deaths.
On Sunday, there were 6,718 community cases nationwide, with 604 hospitalizations and 12 deaths.
The 7-day moving average of cases continues to decline nationwide, with a 7-day moving average on Sunday at 10,543 and last Sunday at 13,543.
The Ministry of Health said it was encouraging to see the number of cases continue to decline, but it was not unexpected as the number of tests and reports generally decreased over the weekend.
