Infectious Disease Specialist Asks About Changes to COVID-19 Data Report at KFL & A-Kingston
The Kingston area keeps seeing some of the best COVID-19 (new coronavirus infection) The state’s infection rate, public health, said this week it would stop reporting the number of cases associated with the outbreak.
But Kingston is not unique. According to research experts, there is a lack of transparency at the state level where experts are shaking their heads.
Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox and Adington Public Health announced on Twitter that they will change the COVID-19 information on the dashboard on Monday afternoon.
The number of cases related to outbreaks will no longer be reported and the color-coded risk list will be discarded. This is after the data tracked by the COVID-19 Science Table in Ontario.
Last week, we reported that the KFL & A region had the highest COVID-19 infection rate in the state.
Public health has told Global News that it has changed concerns about the use of inaccurate rapid antigen testing to identify cases and declare outbreaks.
“This makes the number of confirmed cases associated with outbreaks misleading,” public health said in a statement. “We have removed the risk list from the dashboard due to continuous changes to the test, which makes it impossible to determine a standard definition of risk level.”
However, these changes in reporting levels are plagued by experts such as Dr. Tara Moriati, an associate professor and infectious disease researcher at the University of Toronto.
She says removing that information does not help the general public at this stage of the pandemic, who is expected to manage their own risk assessment.

The state does not have a public COVID-19 reporting obligation and is left to individual health units.

Moriarty and other scientists voluntarily collect data and COVID-19 Resources Canada platform. They are currently working on creating their own risk assessment tool for Canadians and hope to fill the big picture.
