Tick test positive for Sudberry Lyme disease

Public health Sudbury and District reported that black-legged ticks tested positive for bacteria that cause Lyme disease, making it the first case in the region this year.
In a media release on 9 June, public health officials in Sudbury confirmed that mites tested positive for bacteria that caused Lyme disease.
Public Health Sudbury and the District have issued reminders to ensure that the population is taking precautions for themselves and the people who care for them.

Avoid walking in tall grass and make sure your garden is away from debris and overgrown vegetation, grass, bushes and trees -

Keep wooden pegs and bird feeders away from home -

Wear bright long-sleeved shirts, pants, and open-toe shoes -

Use federally controlled insect repellents, including DEET, and use safely according to manufacturer’s instructions -

Check for ticks, clothes, body and pets and change clothes when you get home from the outdoors -

Take a shower to wash away any ticks that have not yet adhered to your skin

If you find any ticks on your skin, you can get rid of them as soon as possible by grabbing them with a fine-tipped tweezer and pulling the strait straight up. After the mites have been removed, wash the area with soap and water, place the mites in a dry container, bring it to your local health unit and send it for testing.
Public health authorities also recommend following up with your health care provider to determine if treatment is needed, especially if mites have been implanted in the skin for more than 24 hours.
One of the typical signs of Lyme disease is a rash that looks like a bull’s eye. The occlusal area is surrounded by a round red rash.
