Bird flu was detected in a flock of poultry in Livingston County.
Livingston County, Michigan-Avian flu was found in a herd of poultry in a non-profit backyard in Livingston County, state officials said.
A study by the Michigan Agricultural and Rural Development Department and a test by the Michigan State University Veterinary Diagnosis Institute confirmed the infection.
Bird flu is considered to be at high risk for poultry, and the warning on Friday, April 15 announced that the facility in which the infected herd lived is under quarantine. Birds were also killed to prevent the spread of further illness, officials said.
This is the second notice of bird flu in southeastern Michigan this week.Authorities reported Avian influenza positive cases in Washtenaw County Thursday, April 14th.

Officials said bird flu is not considered a human risk because no human cases have been detected in the United States. There is no expected disruption to the poultry supply chain and no threat to public health, officials said.
Veterinary authorities have recommended a series of precautions for poultry owners to protect their herds.
“Taking all possible steps to keep wild birds and the bacteria that wild birds may tame away from poultry will help limit the spread and impact of this virus and keep the Michigan herd healthy.” Said Dr. Nora Wineland, a state veterinarian.
These precautions include preventing contact between wild birds and poultry, washing hands after handling birds, disinfecting and differentiating equipment used between sheds, wells to birds or municipal drinking water.
