Coronavirus kills workers in a nursing home in Oregon Coronavirus
Coronavirus killed an employee in an Oregon nursing home, state data released Wednesday show.
A weekly summary of the Oregon Health Authority states that a person who worked in a community care environment died of a coronavirus.
State officials did not say where employees worked to protect their privacy and did not release other information.
However, while the intensive care category includes mental health facilities and orphanages, the state reports deaths from COVID-19 only in senior care facilities.
This publication provides detailed case and mortality data for long-term care facilities, even if other states have published similar data, and Ombudsman, Oregon, and two state senators have requested disclosure. It took place after the state refused to do for a few weeks.
Senator Salagelzer (D-Corvallis) said news of employee deaths reinforces how important it is for workers in all nursing homes to have access to protective equipment and “robust testing protocols.”

The state’s new data first confirms that the federal government’s figures for eight staff deaths in an Oregon nursing home last week were wrong. The federal number relied on information sent directly from the nursing home. Eight workers were reportedly accidentally killed in a home in Oregon.
More than half of Oregon’s coronavirus deaths (92) are connected to senior care facilities, an analysis of Oregon state data shows.
About one-third of these deaths are associated with one location: Southeast Portland Nursing Home Health Care in Foster Creek. Nursing home licenses are currently suspended while the state is moving in the direction of complete withdrawal.
Oregon health officials have published facility-level case and mortality data for facilities with more than one case or at least one death, including the number of residents, staff, close contacts, and Other unspecified categories are summarized.
The state’s latest geriatric care report shows 77 new coronavirus cases since a week ago, most of them associated with outbreaks at Marquis Hope Village Post Acute Rehab in Canby and Springs in Willow Creek.
