The first shipment of Novavax’s Covid-19 vaccine arrives in Singapore and will be available at the end of May.
Singapore — Wednesday (May 4th) Ministry of Health (MOH) said the first shipment of US company Novavax COVID-19 vaccine Called Nuvaxovid Upon arrival in Singapore, it will be offered at the ministry’s first joint testing and vaccination center at the former Bishan Park Secondary School in Sim Min and at 20 Public Health Preparation Clinics (PHPCs) at the end of May.
In a news release, MOH said the Joint Testing and Immunization Center will be the first “new class of facility” to offer both Covid-19 testing and vaccination services on the same site.
These centers are scheduled to be operational by the end of May.
“The joint testing and vaccination center will allow us to integrate our resources while ensuring that testing and vaccination services remain accessible to the general public.
“We are also working to attend selected public health preparation clinics to provide the Nuvaxovid vaccine. Details will be announced in the coming weeks,” said MOH.
In February, the multi-provincial Covid-19 Task Force accepted the recommendation of the MOH Expert Committee on Covid-19 Vaccination to include the Nuvaxovid vaccine in the national vaccination program.
This vaccine is intended for people over the age of 18 and can be used as both a Covid-19 primary series vaccination and a vaccine booster.
“After reviewing safety, efficacy, and tolerability data, the Covid-19 Vaccination Expert Committee recommends the Nuvaxovid vaccine as an alternative to the messenger ribonucleic acid (mRNA) vaccine in individuals over the age of 18. However, the mRNA vaccine is still the preferred vaccine because of its high efficacy and strong immune response, “MOH said Wednesday.
The ministry emphasized that boosters and vaccination will continue to be an important part of Singapore’s Covid-19 strategy in ensuring that the population is adequately protected from infection and serious illness.
“We encourage everyone who is eligible for vaccination and booster immunization to receive them as soon as possible,” MOH said.

Nuvaxovid is the fourth Covid-19 vaccine available in Singapore’s national vaccine program, following Pfizer-BioNTech or Comirnaty, Moderna and Sinovac-CoronaVac.
