Three Indonesian children died of acute hepatitis
May 4, 2022-Three children in Indonesia died of acute hepatitis, causing a worldwide death to four in a mysterious global outbreak of liver disease, CBS News reported.
The Indonesian Ministry of Health said three children died last month at a hospital in the capital Jakarta after showing symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, fever, jaundice, cramps and unconsciousness. CBS News report.
The Indonesian Ministry of Health, like other health authorities around the world, says it is unaware of the causes of hepatitis in children.
“Currently, the Ministry of Health is investigating the cause of acute hepatitis by performing a full panel of virus tests,” he said.
The World Health Organization Identified nearly 200 cases of acute hepatitis in children from 16 countries, primarily the United Kingdom and the United States. 17 children need a liver transplant.
In the United States, there were 20 cases in Alabama, Delaware, Illinois, New York, and North Carolina. One baby died in Wisconsin.
Severe hepatitis with acute liver failure is rare in healthy children. In most cases, the cause has not been identified, but many of them are associated with strains of adenovirus, a common cold virus that does not cause hepatitis in healthy children.
