COVID-19 Bay Area Residents Planning Mother’s Day Rally With Increasing Cases – NBC Bay Area
Mother’s Day celebrations are taking place on Sundays in the Bay Area as the number of cases of COVID-19 increases.
But even now, two years later, Bay Area families and restaurant owners are still trying to make Mother’s Day as normal as possible.
Vasundhara Bhulambrikar, a resident of San Mateo, and her son Atherva Bhulambrikar said they did not allow COVID-19 to prevent family reunions on Mother’s Day this year.
“This is real fun. Just being with them, you know, and don’t be afraid that the COVID will hang on you,” said Vasundhara Bhulambrikar.
While others are obscuring and taking the celebration to another level.
“I’m going to Las Vegas to meet my mother. I’m going to see the cult at a concert,” said Nick Escobar, a resident of San Mateo.
For those who are making reservations, restaurants like Kokko said they are ready to welcome their families.
Yuki Matsushita, owner of Kokko, said he had more than 100 reservations in the NBC Bay Area on Saturday and would receive a call.
“Some people really demand outside,” she said.
Matsushita said on Sunday that Kokko would put more tables outdoors than indoors.
This year, Matsushita added that he expects a large group with a change from last year’s Mother’s Day, which had reservations for two to four people.
As the family prepares to celebrate, health experts warn that someone is quite likely to get infected on Sunday.
Bay Area cases increased by 155% last month.
Dr. Peter Chin Hong, an infectious disease expert at the University of California, San Francisco, told the NBC Bay Area that they would continue to rise.
