Santa Clara County says COVID infections are on the rise and encourages precautions – NBC Bay Area

On Tuesday, the largest county in the Bay Area warned that there was growing concern that an increase in COVID cases could lead to increased hospitalizations.

The average positive rate for 7 days in Santa Clara County is currently 5%. Just a month ago it was less than 2.5%.

Dr. Sarah Cody, Director of Health at Santa Clara County, provided up-to-date data and urged the general public to be vaccinated and continue to be masked.

At this point, the county does not expect to reintroduce the mask obligations or other pandemic restrictions that were subsequently rolled back. According to Cody, the county plans to comply with state rules and currently strongly recommends wearing masks indoors, but it is not required.

However, the county recommends that residents add a layer of protection against COVID-19.

“My message is that it’s time to break the mask and break the test as the pandemic is still going on and more activity is seen. Probably a little more cautious than a month ago. Let’s do it, “Cody said.

Cody shared that not only was the detection rate of COVID-19 in Santa Clara County increased, but it was at a higher level than the county saw during the delta surge. The county has also seen an increase in COVID-19 outbreaks in schools, workplaces, and other facilities where people gather.

“Almost all the indicators we follow are rising,” says Cody.

She recommends that the public wear a mask indoors, be tested, treated and vaccinated if they feel unwell.

“If you qualify for a first or second booster and don’t have one, we encourage you to go ahead and get one,” Cody added.

The county has a very high percentage of people who have the first COVID-19 vaccination series and the first booster shot, but only 21.5% of the inhabitants targeted for the second booster shot still get them. I am reporting that I am doing it. For comparison, 70.1% of eligible Santa Clara County residents (aged 12+) have at least one booster immunization, and 91.3% of county residents aged 5+ have been vaccinated.

Doug Spadel, who lives in San Jose, took his second booster shot at the Santa Clara County trade fair on Tuesday. I’ve heard about the increase in cases.

“It was great and there were no lines. I couldn’t believe I could get in right away,” Speidel said. “Compared to the beginning [of COVID-19 vaccinations]It’s incredible how empty it is, “he shared.

Residents of San Jose, Mark and Edna Stephensen, also went to the county trade fair vaccination site on Tuesday for a second boost. Last week, their child’s family became infected with COVID-19, resulting in a recent rise if they were a little too close to their home.

“Because I’m 70, I didn’t want to take the risk,” explained Mark Stevenson.

“And now that the numbers are growing again, we thought,’We’re going to do that,'” added Edna Stephensen.

County leaders want more people to follow and get the right doses.

NBC Bay Area asked Dr. Cody if there was a hospitalization or case threshold that could urge the county to regain pandemic restrictions.

“At this point in the pandemic, no one wants to put a limit,” Dr. Cody replied.

“At the same time, we need to think about the entire community, especially those who are more vulnerable and need restrictions to protect them,” she continued.

“What I want to do is understand where we are and everyone understands that they are at risk.

“People need to take special precautions, wear masks indoors, and make a few more choices about the rally-take them outdoors-tests, etc.,” she said.
