Another 11 COVID-19 deaths reported in Manitoba, 196 new hospitalizations-Winnipeg
Manitoba says 196 new patients were hospitalized as a result COVID-19 (new coronavirus infection) Last week, 11 more virus-related deaths were seen in the state.
Numbers found in the state Weekly epidemiological updates Covering May 1-7, the number of deaths is slightly lower, but the hospitalization rate is higher than the data published a week ago.
According to state epidemiology updates, 183 new patients with COVID-19 were hospitalized when data was posted online last Thursday morning, but the number changed to 196 later that day.
I didn’t immediately understand why the number was changed.
From April 24th to 30th, Manitoba reported 185 new hospitalizations and 14 deaths related to COVID-19.
According to the data, 13 of the recent hospitalizations required admission to the intensive care unit.
The state’s weekly update does not show the total number of people currently hospitalized and ICUs as a result of COVID-19, only the number of new hospitalizations that occurred in the previous week.
Shared Health told Global News that as of Wednesday morning, there were a total of 89 patients in the Manitoba ICU (both COVID-19 and non-COVID-19).
“Increased illness” in hospitals
Global News and Shared Health to discuss how Manitoba’s medical system handles the current COVID-19 situation and what is being done to prepare for another wave potential. I requested an interview with, but was told that no one was available.
A spokesperson for Shared Health acknowledged that the hospital “experienced an increase in illness in the last few weeks,” but said recruiting and retaining nurses was an ongoing priority.
Manitoba’s surgical waiting time improved last year, but is still below the national benchmark, the report said.
A spokeswoman said 29 nurses are expected to undergo full life-saving training on Friday, and an additional 19 are enrolled in the 12-week class from May 24th.
“New employees have shown commitment and dedication throughout the pandemic, but will join the workforce with increased illness in recent weeks,” a spokesman said in an email.
“Overall Winnipeg, we continue to closely monitor staff illness rates, noting the decline in staff illness rates over the most recent payroll period (down from 71,600 hours per week in the previous payment cycle to 59,600 hours per week).”
The state said last week that 11 new outbreaks were reported in long-term care facilities.
On average, COVID-19 832 lab tests were conducted daily during the week covered by the latest report, with the state’s weekly test positive rate dropping from 20.7% in the previous week to 17.6%.
However, state cases and positive rates do not always provide accurate images of active infection rates, as the government has significantly reduced state tests and does not include the results of positive tests performed at home. ..
The state also did not provide details about recent deaths. Information about COVID-19 victims, such as age, gender, and health area, is no longer included in weekly updates.
According to state data, 1,847 Manitoba people have died as a result of COVID-19 since March 2020.
Wastewater monitoring data Winnipeg’s current May 2nd indicates ongoing COVID-19 activity, the state said.
According to state data, 83% of eligible Manitoba states have been partially vaccinated against COVID-19, a slight increase from the 82.8% reported a week ago.
The number of fully vaccinated eligible Manitoba remained the same at 79.6 percent.
As of April 30, 42.8% of eligible individuals were receiving a single additional dose, up from 42.1% reported a month ago.
