Five additional backyard producers infected with bird flu in Minnesota brought a total of 75 sites to 75-WestCentral Tribune
—Since this time last week, five more bird flu sites have been identified in Minnesota, all classified as backyard producers.
Minnesota has just under 2.9 million birds affected by bird flu and has remained largely unchanged since the May 10 report by the Minnesota Animal Health Commission.
As of May 17, the total number of definitive diagnoses of H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza is 2,895,350.
According to a daily report shared by the Animal Health Commission, Crow Wing County has the first site of infection, with a flock of 145 birds confirmed to have been diagnosed on May 10. Backyard producer reports do not identify poultry species.
There is a fifth site of infection in Todd County, and a flock of 52 birds was also identified on May 10.
This week, Chisago County has fourth and fifth locations, with 155 birds identified on May 11 and 37 birds identified on May 12.
The first location in Grant County is 309 birds identified on May 12.
The first Minnesota case of the disease, which is fatal to poultry, was confirmed on March 25. The infected herd is destroyed.
