Monterey County sees 1,055 new COVID cases amid a surge in California virus
Monterey County reported 1,055 new COVID-19 cases and 0 deaths last week. A week ago, the county reported 393 cases of coronavirus and two deaths. Through the pandemic, 96,193 cases and 735 deaths have been reported.
The number of new coronavirus cases surged in California during the week ending Sunday, with 100,516 cases reported, an increase of 76.1%. Last week there were 57,079 new cases of the virus that causes COVID-19.
California ranks 19th among the fastest-spreading states of the coronavirus per capita, according to USA TODAY network analysis of Johns Hopkins University data. Last week, cases of coronavirus in the United States increased by 31.8% from the previous week, and 796,108 cases were reported. With 11.87% of the country’s population, California had 12.63% of the country’s case last week. Nationwide, 42 states had more cases last week than last week.

Overall, the newest case was added to Los Angeles County, with 22,229 cases. Santa Clara County, 8,592 cases. San Diego County, 7,749 people. Weekly cases increased in 57 counties from the previous week. The worst increases from last week’s pace were in the Santa Clara, Orange and Los Angeles counties.

California ranks 15th in the state, with the percentage of people receiving at least one shot, with 83.8% of residents being vaccinated at least partially. The national percentage is 77.7%, as shown by USA TODAY analysis of CDC data. The most used Pfizer and Moderna vaccines in the United States should be given twice at intervals of several weeks.
In the week ending Wednesday, California reported an additional 415,833 doses, including 65,747 initial doses. Last week, the state received 463,250 vaccinations, including 79,852 initial doses. Overall, California reported a total dose of 75,237,247 doses.

In California, 262 people were reported dead from COVID-19 during the week ending Sunday. The week before that, 285 people were reported dead.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, a total of 9,449,915 people have been positive for the coronavirus and 91,044 have died from the disease, according to data from Johns Hopkins University. In the United States, 83,281,329 people are positive and 1,002,173 die.

California COVID-19 hospitalization increased

Hospitals in 31 states reported more COVID-19 patients than they did a week ago, while hospitals in 29 states had more COVID-19 patients in the intensive care unit. Hospitals in 37 states have admitted more COVID-19 patients in the week more recent than last week, a USA TODAY analysis of US health and welfare data shows.
