However, the CDC emphasized that the timing of the report was simply appropriate and that the guidance was not a rush response to the increasing number of monkeypox cases. Including 9 in the US..

Authorities said experts began working to improve the recommendations two years ago and the Advisory Committee on Immunization and Implementation (ACIP) approved them in late 2021.

Guidance revolves around Jyennos, the second vaccine approved by the Food and Drug Administration against orthopox viruses such as monkeypox and smallpox in 2019. Since 2015, ACIP has recommended the ACAM2000 vaccine for occupational exposure.

ACAM2000 is a replicative virus that can cause serious side effects such as myocardial pericarditis, a type of heart inflammation. It is a derivative of Dryvax, a vaccine that was successful in eradicating smallpox by 1980.

Children in the United States were vaccinated against smallpox until 1971, but a small number of people at occupational risk continue to be vaccinated with the orthopox virus vaccine.

Jyennos is a replication-deficient vaccine. Based on clinical trial data, the ACIP Orthopoxvirus Work Group believes that Jyennos is slightly more effective than ACAM2000 and is unlikely to cause serious side effects.

ACIP takes care of laboratory workers conducting research or trials to diagnose orthopox virus, specific people responding to orthopox virus-related public health surveys, and medical care to administer the ACAM 2000 vaccine. We recommend Jyennos to our workers.

However, the Commission continues to recommend ACAM 2000.

ACIP also recommends Jyennos boosters every two years for highly virulent orthopox viruses and at least every ten years for less virulent viruses. The recommended booster interval for ACAM2000 is 3 years for less virulent viruses and at least 10 years for highly virulent viruses.

According to the committee’s guidance, people who receive ACAM2000 for primary vaccination may take a booster dose of Jyennos.

Jyennos is given as two shots at 28-day intervals. ACAM2000 is administered using a multi-puncture technique via 15 jabs with a reconstituted vaccine dipped in a stainless steel bifurcated needle.

Monkeypox is a virus derived from wild animals such as rodents and primates, and occasionally infects humans. Most human cases occur in Central and West Africa, where the disease is endemic.

Monkeypox begins with fever, headache, malaise, malaise, begins on the face, and is followed by lesions that spread to other parts of the body.

According to the World Health Organization, about 200 cases of monkeypox were reported on Friday in more than 20 countries, where the outbreak of the disease is usually unknown. Authorities described the epidemic as “containment.”

On Wednesday, CDC director Dr. Rochelle Walensky said he had identified nine cases in California, Florida, Massachusetts, Utah, Virginia, and Washington, and estimated cases in New York.
