After the recent Colorado monkeypox incident, state health officials are conducting contact tracing.

Denver (KDVR) — FOX31 investigators are getting some new details about one of two in Colorado Monkeypox Case.

A recent incident involved a man who said health officials visited the hospital just days before his positive diagnosis.

I’ve heard from anonymous health care workers that the hospital hasn’t done enough to screen patients before seeing a doctor, so I’m asking health authorities about this.

Joshua Short of FOX31 shows that state officials are talking about these new developments.

Although the CDC and state health officials say that both the risk of monkeypox and the risk of it becoming a fatal situation are low. One health care worker we spoke to asked the hospital to do more to reduce the risk of exposure to health care workers who are already lean as a result of the pandemic.

Person concerned with Centura Health told FOX31 that the second presumed monkeypox-positive male patient in Colorado visited St. Anthony Hospital. However, it is not clear if it was associated with the treatment of monkeypox. But shortly after that visit, he tested positive.

An anonymous health care worker who knew this particular case told Problem Solvers that many hospital employees could have been exposed to this patient.

Now the tipster is upset, saying that this exposure may not have happened if more was done to screen patients who came to the hospital prior to booking.

To put that into context, some hospitals required patients to fill out a form to screen for symptoms during the COVID-19 pandemic, and even during the outbreak of Ebola.

On Monday, the State Health Department informed problem solvers that patients did not need to fill out a specific form before seeing a doctor. However, individual healthcare providers, clinics, and hospitals may have a form that allows patients to fill out.

On Friday, May 27, the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) notified St. Anthony Hospital that it provided care to patients with presumed monkeypox positivity.

The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment has sent a communication notifying health care providers throughout the state of the status of monkeypox. Healthcare providers who see patients with a rash that may be consistent with monkeypox, especially those with a recent travel history to the location where monkeypox is reported, should contact CDPHE.

CDPHE will issue updates to healthcare providers as needed. With CDPHE, patients do not need to fill out a specific form before seeing a healthcare provider. However, individual healthcare providers, clinics, and hospitals may have forms that require patients to fill out. If someone is identified as being exposed to monkeypox, that person will be contacted by the health department to determine the level and risk of being exposed to monkeypox.

Depending on the level of exposure, you may be offered a vaccine that can prevent you from getting sick, or you may be asked to monitor your symptoms and check in to public health on a regular basis. The CDC recommends vaccination within 4 days of exposure to prevent the onset of the disease. If given between 4 and 14 days after exposure, vaccination may reduce the symptoms of the disease, but it cannot prevent the disease.

At this time, Colorado is using a federal-provided, double-dose Jynneos vaccine for people at risk. An example of high-risk exposure is unprotected contact between a person’s skin or mucous membranes and a person’s skin, lesions, or body fluids known to have the active monkeypox virus in the body. Risk determination and the need for post-exposure vaccination are carried out by the healthcare provider in consultation with the state’s public health. A person who has been vaccinated with the Jynneos vaccine is considered fully vaccinated after receiving both vaccines.

No vaccine is 100% effective in preventing infection. Monkeypox can still develop after vaccination. The timing of vaccination after high-risk exposure is important for the effectiveness of the vaccine to prevent monkeypox infection. Monkeypox is rarely fatal. Currently, the case fatality rate for monkeypox versions that are widespread in non-endemic countries is less than 1%. Monkeypox spreads primarily through close contact with people who develop monkeypox. Close contact with respiratory droplets, body fluids, or skin lesions can lead to infection.

Close relationships may include family members, those who care for sick patients, those who share bed linen with sick people, or those who have been exposed to monkeypox for long periods of time. I have. Epidemiological data from recent cases suggest that there may be an increased risk for men who have recently traveled to countries where monkeypox has been reported or who have sex with other men. State epidemiologists are coordinating with the entire state and the CDC to monitor the progress of the virus and learn more about the infection.

Coloradans should be aware of the symptoms and prevention of monkeypox. Monkeypox often begins with fever, headache, myalgia, swollen lymph nodes, and malaise. The rash usually develops within 1 to 3 days after fever and often begins on the face and spreads to other parts of the body. In recent years, the rash often begins in the genitals or perineum. The associated monkeypox rash can resemble other infections such as syphilis and herpes. The incubation period for monkeypox is usually 7 to 14 days, but can range from less than 5 days to 21 days.

Most people recover within 2-4 weeks. Coloradans avoids close physical contact with individuals who develop monkeypox, wears high-quality masks when in close contact with people experiencing monkeypox symptoms, and immediately informs health care providers. Contacting will help prevent the spread of monkeypox, whenever possible if they experience symptoms.
