Tippecanoe County reported 374 additional COVID-19 cases this week
The state added 8,784 cases, resulting in a 7.9% increase in new coronavirus cases in Indiana during the week ending Sunday. Last week there were 8,143 new cases of the virus that causes COVID-19.
Indiana ranks 35th among the fastest-spreading coronaviruses per capita, according to USA TODAY network analysis of Johns Hopkins University data. Last week, cases of coronavirus in the United States decreased by 11.3% from the previous week, and 702,236 cases were reported. With 2.02% of the country’s population, Indiana had 1.25% of the country’s case last week. Nationwide, 32 states had more cases in the most recent week than in the previous week.

Benton County reported eight cases and zero deaths last week. A week ago, it reported seven cases and zero deaths. Through the pandemic, 2,523 cases and 21 deaths have been reported.
Fountain County reported 14 cases and 0 deaths last week. A week ago, it reported 24 cases and one death. Through the pandemic, 5,529 cases and 104 deaths have been reported.

Indiana ranks 46th in the state in terms of the percentage of people who have received at least one shot, with 61.5% of the population being vaccinated at least partially. The national percentage is 77.7%, as shown by USA TODAY analysis of CDC data. The most used Pfizer and Moderna vaccines in the United States should be given twice at intervals of several weeks.
In the week ending Wednesday, Indiana reported an additional 38,152 vaccinations, including 4,746 initial doses. Last week, the state received 43,295 vaccinations, including 5,104 initial doses. Overall, Indiana reported a total of 9,542,620 doses.
Throughout Indiana, cases decreased in 35 counties, the most in Clark County, from 206 cases a week ago to 180 cases. In Jasper County, 40 out of 60 cases. In Decatur County, 18 out of 36 cases.
In Indiana, 19 people were reported dead from COVID-19 during the week ending Sunday. The week before that, 45 people were reported dead.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, a total of 1,730,761 people have been positive for the coronavirus and 23,700 have died from the disease, according to data from Johns Hopkins University. In the United States, 83,984,644 people are positive and 1,004,733 have died.
